Participate in Your Health Decisions

Have you ever gone to your physician or dentist for a problem and the doctor looks, makes a diagnosis and tells you to set up an appointment as they are walking out the door? At the NYC Smile Spa, we always want our patients to not only understand our recommendations but to actively participate in their own health care decisions.

 The picture above shows the use of an intraoral camera that we routinely use to show our patients what we are seeing “under the hood”. 80% of knowledge is gained visually, so isn’t it great that we can show you what we see and not just describe it?

 Most importantly, we will take the time to explain the pros and cons of a given recommendation , explain any alternative treatments and the limitations , longevity and prognosis of all options. Our patients are asked if they understand and if they have any questions. The next time you are given a diagnosis and plan of action, participate in the process and ask any and all questions that you may have. This should include is there anything you can do or change to prevent further future issues!
