Is Your Dentist committed to Continuing Education?

Is Your Dentist committed to Continuing Education?

The world of dentistry is explosively changing.  Many of the materials and techniques available today were not even around just a few years ago.  Unless your dentist is committed to lifelong learning through continuing education, they can become outdated very quickly. It is a good thing, when your dentist and staff close the office and attend these courses to be able to provide you with the latest technology has to offer.

Of course, new products and techniques need to be critically analyzed through proper scientific research.  State licensing requires a minimal amount of continuing education to keep your license in good standing.  Unfortunately, these regulations are not enforced often and are self monitored.  In addition, although the intent of these laws are good, these requirements can be satisfied without taking adequate courses that truly advance your knowledge and keep you informed of the state of the art.

During the pandemic shutdown of dental offices, it was a perfect opportunity to take advantage of my free time and delve into an abundance of continuing education. Besides catching up on many professional journal articles, all courses throughout the country that were scheduled went virtual via Zoom so it was easy to sign up and attend courses that normally would have required taking off of work and traveling out of state. Ask your dentist, “What did they do during the lockdown?” If continued education wasn’t part of their answer, you may have to wonder about their commitment to providing the most advanced and modern care available?

At NYC Smile Spa, we are strongly committed to lifelong continuing education to be able to provide our patients with the best quality care possible.  We go well beyond these minimum requirements and fortunately live in a market that brings a wealth of quality courses to our area to choose from.  This keeps our doctors and staff excited about dentistry while we provide you with the best care possible.
